Square Feet Co Work offer three premises to people in need of a versatile workspace. In Northampton, they have two beautiful Victorian fully serviced office buildings with meeting and co working space; and they also have a refurbished serviced office building in Daventry.
They are a very “hands on” family run business that perfectly embody their “work your way” ethos. Providing ultrafast internet, free hot beverages and biscuits, 24/7 access and easily accessible management in case of a query, Square Feet Co Work truly understand what is important to business owners.
Firewall Solutions
The firewall required for serviced offices is far more complicated than usual business internet and firewalls. Most businesses will not require a firewall solution, as their internet router will suffice, if configured correctly.
However, in a serviced office, each separate workspace needs to have a secure internet connection that also hides the hardware from other offices. With a normal office configuration, you can view the other computers and printers if you have shared settings. Obviously, the different businesses within the serviced offices would not want their computers to be discoverable by other businesses in the building.
Furthermore, if one office inadvertently downloads a virus or malware, the virus could infect all the other businesses within the building if the internet systems are not separated.
In Square Feet Co Work’s first serviced office building, they procured the services of another IT company that provided them with a commonplace solution offered by most IT companies. This was a very pricey firewall solution, that required an expensive monthly maintenance and licence charge to ensure that the system is constantly up to date.
Open Source Firewall
Square Feet Co Work had just taken on their second serviced building when we met with Tom Green. We discussed an open-source firewall solution as an alternative. In comparison to their current offering, this was a far more cost-effective option, and it did not require a monthly maintenance costs or licence. Beyond any addition configuration requirements, there are no ongoing costs after the initial set up.
We also discussed the pros and cons of both solutions, to allow Tom to make an informed decision on the best firewall solution for him. Tom decided to proceed with the open-source firewall solution and we also installed additional cabling.
Daventry Serviced Office
When Square Feet Co Work, took on a further serviced office building in Daventry, he contacted us again to install an open-source firewall there too.
We asked Tom, about his experience with Keba Computers and this is what he had to say:
“I liked that Keba Computer Services offered me an alternative solution to the existing firewall infrastructure that we had installed at our first premises. We take security very seriously for our tenants, so we need a system that we can be confident in. Neil from Keba Computer Services gave us the two options and the cost implications for both. He also discussed the pros and cons of both firewall solutions, which allowed us to make an informed business decision.
“Neil has the knowledge and expertise and made the recommendation for the open-source firewall and as a trusted partner, we followed his recommendation. The firewall had been in our second Northampton building for about 7 months when we took on a third premises in Daventry and had no hesitation in asking Neil to install the same firewall solution there.”
